When the 2013 NFL Supplemental Draft came and went without a player being selected, it wasn’t the biggest surprise. What was shocking, however, is the news that South Alabama defensive back Damond Smith has not received a call since the conclusion of the e-mail draft.

According to former Philadelphia Eagles scout John Middlekauff:

The news is especially surprising when you consider the fact that Smith was approached after the 2013 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers, who had interest in signing him then. Unfortunately for Smith, he had not filed his official paperwork so he was not eligible to be signed as an undrafted free agent.

That mistake could have cost Smith a shot at the NFL.

There is still a chance that someone will be impressed with his physical skill set, but his inability to meet deadlines and the two separate suspensions from his team are not a good look.
