What is the NFL Supplemental Draft?
By Josh Sanchez
The 2013 Supplemental Draft will be held today as all 32 teams have another shot to add promising young talent to their rosters before the start of training camps. The NFL holds a Supplemental Draft over the summer to offer a second chance to those players who did not enter the regular draft. Usually those players are having eligibility issues and decide to go pro. Teams that use a selection in the Supplemental Draft are forced to forfeit their pick in the following year’s NFL Draft for the corresponding round.
This year, six players are eligible.
- James Boyd, DE, UNLV
- Nate Holloway, DT, UNLV
- Toby Jackson, DE, Central Florida
- DeWayne Peace, WR, Houston
- O.J. Ross, WR, Purdue
- Damond Smith, DB, South Alabama
Out of the eligible prospects, O.J. Ross is the most likely to be selected in the supplemental draft.
The supplemental draft kicks off at 1:00 p.m. ET.
