Talk about a string of bad luck for the Phialdelphia Phillies, a team that was set on not being active at the MLB trade deadline before a wealth of injuries forced the club’s hand.

Ryan Howard is the high-profile name to go down, but the injury to center fielder Ben Revere is what is forcing the team to go hunting on the market according to Bob Brookover of the Philadelphia Inquirer, who has a quote from Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr.:

"“We’ll see how long it’s going to be. I think it’s something that’s going to take a while. If that’s the case, we’ll probably be looking for a center fielder if one is available or will be an upgrade on what we have with John (Mayberry) out there.”"

It’s a huge blow for the Phillies for a couple of reasons. For one, Revere was playing out of his mind and helping to mitigate the loss of others.

Of course there’s reason number two, which is the obvious fact that now the team has to give up assets in order to remain competitive through serious injuries.

Watch out for this one because you’ve yet to hear the last of the Phillies and their actions on the trade market.
