Reports all offseason have predicted that veteran signal-caller Mark Sanchez will win the New York Jets starting quarterback job, despite the fact that the team spent a second-round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft on Geno Smith. In their most recent report, ESPN New York says that they would “bet the rent” on Sanchez winning the starting gig.

From ESPN New York:

"It’s Smith’s job to win. The organization wants a fresh face at quarterback, but Smith has a lot to prove after a lackluster performance in the OTAs and minicamp. He has the arm and the athleticism to electrify the offense, but can he lead? Can he grasp the offense? Can he handle adversity? Chances are, he won’t be able to answer them all by opening day. Bet the rent on Sanchez starting Week 1."

The troubling news is that the Jets are reportedly considering using Smith as a “change-of-pace quarterback” if he does not win the starting job.

Yeah, cause that worked out so well last season when the Jets used Tim Tebow in the same role.

The Jets are preparing for an interesting training camp battle. With the New York media, you know that this will be quite the spectacle. Get your popcorn ready.
