There is no doubt that the San Francisco 49ers are ready for a full season with Colin Kaepernick at the helm, but they need to be prepared if he goes down due to an unfortunate. With Kaepernick’s dual-threat ability, he puts himself at more risk of injury than most quarterbacks, so the team needs to make sure they have a reliable quarterback.

For the 49ers, that will be Colt McCoy.

If McCoy ever has his number called to takes over the offense, the Sacramento Bee believes that McCoy will run a Alex Smith-like offense.

"The 49ers signed McCoy because they feel they could win games with him if Kaepernick, who will be exposed to hits at times this season, couldn’t play. Look for the offense to be Alex Smith-like if McCoy ever takes the helm. He was solid this spring."

McCoy reportedly had a great spring with the 49ers and there is a strong belief that he will be the team’s primary back up moving forward.
