Controversial transgender fighter Fallon Fox has signed on to fight Ashlee Evans-Smith in the CFA women’s featherweight tournament finals. The fight has been booked for October 12 on AXS-TV. No official location or venue has been officially announced and there are no other bouts scheduled at this time, but the belief is the event will be held at BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Florida.

The winner of the tournament will receive $20,000.

Evans-Smith advanced directly to the tournament final after her opponent failed to make weight, while Fox ran through Allanna Jones at CFA 11 in May.

The 37-year-old Fox began competing in mixed martial arts last year after undergoing gender reassignment surgery in 2006. As for Evans-Smith, her win in the CFA women’s featherweight tournament quarterfinals was her professional debut. Before going pro, Evans-Smith dropped four of her final five fights as an amateur, including a five second knockout loss to Invicta FC fighter Veronica Rothenhausler.

As is always the case when Fox steps in to the cage, you can expect plenty of media attention on the upcoming CFA event and AXS TV as people continue the debate on whether or not Fox should be able to fight against women and whether or not she has an unfair advantage over her competitors.
