The Tampa Bay Buccaneers acquired running back and return specialist Jeff Demps for running back LeGarrette Blunt. It looks like they’ll have to wait for their new player to get to training camp. Demps has accepted an invitation to the IAAF World Championships in Moscow next month.

“We’ve had conversations with the Bucs and they’re excited about having Jeff,” Rose said last week, via the Tampa Tribune. “And so it will be interesting to see how it goes. I wish I could give everyone a date certain for when he’ll be there but I can’t.”

From the Tampa Tribune:

"The decision means Demps will not join the Bucs until late in the preseason. That could impact his chances of making the team, but the Bucs have been aware of Demps’ plans for the track season and appear willing to wait for his return."

Jeff Demps was a member of the United States 4×100 meter relay team in the 2012 London Olympics. They came in second and took the silver. Demps is competing in the same event in Moscow. The finals for the 4×100 relay in Moscow is August 18th.

As a returner at the University of Florida he averaged 28.8 yards per kick return.
