Jonathan Stewart ready middle or end of camp

Jonahtan Stewart is coming of surgery on both ankles. That’s a tall order for any player to try and make a comeback. The Carolina Panthers and head coach Ron Rivera have avoided giving him a return date leaving fans and fantasy owners alike in the dark.

Pat Yasinskas is a former Panthers beat writer and now writes for ESPN’s NFC South Blog. Yasinskas speculated that Stewart wouldn’t be ready till the middle of training camp, possibly even more so towards the end of camp.

From Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com:

Coach Ron Rivera has stopped short of saying Stewart will be ready for the first day of training camp. Stewart is coming off surgery on both ankles. I get the sense it might be more toward the middle or end of camp before we see much of Stewart.

Stewart withdrew from a golf tournament he was enrolled in due to ankle issues. Not a good sign.

From the Charlotte Observer:

“We’ll see,” Rivera said. “He’s been rehabbing and working with our trainers. We’ll see once we get to the 25th.”

Stewart was scheduled to participate in Whitfield’s golf event before withdrawing because of his ankle issues, according to a tournament official.

But Rivera said he noticed Stewart working out at Bank of America Stadium on Wednesday, and was pleased with what he saw.

“He’s been very diligent about that. So I’m pretty excited about it,” Rivera said. “I’m pretty excited about getting him back full throttle and ready to go.”
