The New England Patriots have put tight end Rob Gronkowski on the physically unable to perform list. That will hold him out of action till the sixth week of the NFL season. That means when the season starts, Tom Brady will be without his five leading receivers from 2012 for the first six weeks of the season.

Wes Welker signed with the Denver Broncos, Danny Woodhead is with the San Diego Chargers, Aaron Hernandez is in jail awaiting trial for murder charges and Brandon Lloyd is a free agent.

The New England Patriots did bring in former St. Louis Rams wide receiver Danny Amendola. Their new receiver Amendola fits the mold of Wes Welker but hasn’t lived up to Welker’s numbers in St. Louis. He has also struggled to stay healthy.

With him receiving the bulk of the targets from quarterback Tom Brady in the first six weeks, he has to have the Patriots nervous.

Another receiver Julian Edelman as well as tight end Jake Ballard are also starting the season on the PUP list with Rob Gronkowski.
