The Baltimore Ravens received some bad news earlier in the day when tight end Dennis Pitta went down with a hip injury that would reportedly keep him out of the season-opener against the Denver Broncos. Unfortunately for the Ravens, it was even worse.

Pitta has been ruled out for the season after further tests show the injury was worse than originally believed.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported that Pitta was out for the year, but Albert Breer of the NFL Network was able to confirm the hip fracture:

The news is awful for the team and even worse for Joe Flacco, who had incredible chemistry with Pitta. Add in the fact that the Ravens also lost Anquan Boldin in free agency and the team’s red zone passing game took a serious hit.

Now, the pressure will be on Ed Dickson to step up and prove his worth during his contract year.
