The Kansas City Royals are interested in upgrading second base and have checked in on a variety of infielders on the block.

According to CBS’ Danny Knobler, the Royals have inquired about the Los Angeles Angels Howie Kendrick, the Chicago White Sox’s Gordon Beckham and the Milwaukee Brewers Rickie Weeks:

"The Royals, looking for upgrades at second base and in right field, have had discussions about Gordon Beckham of the White Sox,Howie Kendrick of the Angels and Rickie Weeks of the Brewers, according to sources. There was no indication Tuesday that the Royals were close on a deal for any of the three players, or any other trade, for that matter. While they still won’t completely rule out dealing starter Ervin Santana, he was still scheduled to pitch Tuesday night against the Twins as the Royals try to extend their six-game winning streak."

While we’ve heard that Kendrick is all but on the block and that the Royals have interest, both Weeks and Beckham are new names.

Weeks and Beckham have been severe disappointments over the past two seasons or so and both the Brewers and White Sox could be be open to moving both, assuming the price is right.
