The trade deadline has passed, now it’s time for the waiver period to begin. With that being said, 2 teams who made a trade before the deadline, will go head to head this weekend in a 4 game series.

The Chicago Cubs traded former set up man/closer to the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 2nd for reliever Matt Guerrier. Both players involved in the trade are currently on the active roster and should see some work against their former teams this weekend.

Now that the waiver period is upon us, the Chicago Cubs could be an active team during this time. With guys like Dioner Navarro, James Russell, Nate Schierholtz and David DeJesus being possible trade chips, their future with the Cubs should be determined based on their performances in this series.

Teams are going to be looking at getting the best available players off the market as soon as they hit the waiver wire. I mean, either way I think Navarro and Schierholtz get dealt sometime this month, maybe as soon as next week.

Current standings for the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers are the following.

Chicago Cubs (49-58) are 16.0 games out of 1st place in the National League Central.

Los Angeles Dodgers (57-49) are currently in 1st place in the National League West.

Game 1 – August 1st (TV)

7:05 CT (WGN) – 5:05 PT (PRIME)

Game 1 starters will be Ricky Nolasco (1-1, 3.13 ERA) going up against Chris Rusin (1-0, 2.93 ERA)

Game 2 – August 2nd

3:05 CT (WGN) – 1:05 PT (PRIME)

Now as for the starters, Game 2 we will see Hyun-Jin Ryu (9-3, 3.14 ERA) start for the Dodgers against Travis Wood (7-7, .79 ERA) and the Chicago Cubs.

Game 3 – August 3rd

3:05 CT (FOX) – 1:05 PT (FOX)

Game 3 starters will be Chris Capuano (3-6, 4.54 ERA) going up against Jeff Samardzija (6-9, 3.75 ERA)

Game 4 – August 4th

1:20 CT (WGN) – 11:20 PT (PRIME)

The final game of the series will be Zack Greinke (8-3, 3.43 ERA) against Carlos Villanueva (2-7, 4.33 ERA)

It should be an exciting series, as young Dodgers phenom Yasiel Puig will make his debut at Wrigley Field. As a Cubs fan, I hope our starting pitchers and or bullpen can limit him, not much we can do when it comes to his defense. Smart base running! The kid has a strong arm on him.
