The Washington Redskins have added veteran depth at the linebacker position with the signing of free agent Nick Barnett, who most recently played with the Buffalo Bills. The deal between the two sides was a one-year contract.

From Adam Schefter of ESPN:

After losing top back up Keenan Robinson for the second-straight season to a torn pectoral muscle, they needed some extra bodies behind starters London Fletcher and Perry Riley. After the workout with the Redskins, the team felt confident enough in what Barnett has left in the tank to offer him a deal.

Last season, Barnett was the Buffalo Bills leading tackler and showed that he is still a great player to have against the run.

Barnett can still excel in a 3-4 defense and it is not out of the question that he could end up finding a place in the starting line up at some point during the season. Of course, Barnett will first need to fully recover from the undisclosed injury that he was nursing throughout the offseason.
