Earlier this morning we passed along the report that San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis suffered an injury to his right hand during the team’s training camp practice on Wednesday and, while it seemed very minor at first, the team believes there may be some structural damage.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com said in his report that Willis will undergo an x-ray on the hand at some point on Thursday and Pro Football Talk states the team fears Willis could have a “slight fracture”.

Willis injured his hand during a blitz pick up drill when he took on fullback Bruce Miller. He was able to remain on the field for the remainder of the practice with his hand heavily wrapped.

A slight fracture may not seem like a major concern, but when you consider the linebacker’s history that includes two previous fractures to his right hand and a fracture to a finger on his right hand during his college career. Hopefully the injury won’t lead to more problems.
