The New York Jets come in to the season with some low expectations, but head coach Rex Ryan is using the negative predictions from the media as a motivating factor as the team prepares for the upcoming season. Put all of the quarterback controversies and mediocre roster aside, Ryan believes that his team will compete and prove that they are much better than anyone thinks they will be.

“You know what? If you’re a competitor how does that thing not get you? How does that not motivate you? It’s almost like, ‘Ok, well we’re going to show you.’ Of course, that’s your human nature,” Ryan said, according to statements distributed from the team.

“You’re going to get a group of 53 and how many coaches in the entire organization and saddle you with those types of things and not rally, if you will, behind it because we don’t believe those are true. It’s going to be proven out, it’ll be proven out when the season comes rolling around. We feel we will be much better than that.”

Ryan is right.

No matter what the media predicts or what the headlines say going in to the season, we don’t know exactly what the team can do on the field until the regular season begins. It doesn’t look good for the Jets, however, and their roster leaves a lot to be desired, but they could always end up being a surprise team.

Hey, crazier things have happened.
