The Baltimore Ravens took Jonathan Ogden with their first draft pick ever. That weight didn’t keep Ogden from living up to expectations. He was an 11-time Pro Bowler and 10-time All-Pro. He also led the Ravens to a Super Bowl championship.

“I’ve often thought about that day back in 1996 when you drafted me instead of Lawrence Phillips,” Ogden cracked to Newsome. “I think that worked out well for everybody.”

“I am so very proud to have been the Baltimore Ravens’ first-ever draft choice, and I am so humbled to be theBaltimore Ravens’ first-ever Hall of Fame inductee,” Ogden said.

He thanked his grandmother and father first. What followed was a speech that was class, light-hearted and smart. He talked about his support of former Art Modell.

Ogden on his defining moment:

“When I was younger and we were playing in Memorial Stadium, Ernest Byner was our running back. He caught a screen pass, and I swear I outran him on the way to the end zone and knocked a safety on his butt. That showed everyone what my athleticism could do out there. When I was younger, I was quite the athlete out there. Not anymore,” Ogden said.
