The New England Patriots have had an unusual and abnormally rocky offseason for their franchise. After losing feature receiver Wes Welker  to free agency and top tight end Rob Gronkowski to injury the beginning of the season looked like it was going to be rough. The Patriots signed St. Louis Rams wide receiver Danny Amendola and then cut tight end Aaron Hernandez following his arrest on murder charges.

That means Danny Amendola could be Tom Brady’s main target when the season starts. His injury history has Patriots worrying about whether Amendola can shoulder the load and he has big shoes to fill replacing a very productive Welker.

Head coach Bill Belichick made some comments that should calm Patriots fans and ease some of their worries.

“He’s become a very dependable player for us,” Belichick said, via ESPN Boston. “He doesn’t make many mental errors. He’s a guy who is usually in the right spot and has a good understanding of defenses and what he’s supposed to do. You can tell he’s been in the league for four years.”

That is good news for Amendola who is poised to have a breakout season as Brady’s main target for the first part of the season. Fantasy owners, take note!
