The Green Bay Packers lost wide receiver Greg Jennings to their divisional foes, the Minnesota Vikings, in free agency. Now they’ve lost wide receiver Jordy Nelson for the remainder of training camp as well.

According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Nelson had knee surgery Monday and will miss the remainder of the preseason.

The Packers are counting, or are hopeful at least, that Nelson returns by the opening week of the season, four weeks away. That means the surgery had to be a relatively minor procedure like a scope or MCL repair. It is out of the ordinary for Nelson. He hasn’t had a knee injury, or problem for that matter, since 2009. He did miss time last season but it was do to hamstring and ankle issues.

That has Randall Cobb, James Jones and Jermichael Finley will all likely get more action well into the season as Jordy Nelson recovers from the injury. Fantasy owners take note!

As far as who will fill into Jordy Nelson’s spot in three wide receiver formations, the leading candidate is second year receiver out of Virginia Tech Jarrett Boykin.
