New York Yankees long time short stop Derek Jeter plans to start running program next week.

Jeter is currently working his way back from a minor calf strain and expects to return when he is first eligible. Eduardo Nunez will continue to fill in for Jeter as long as he has too and I’m sure he isn’t complaining as this could be Jeter’s final season.

"“I would assume I’m going to run soon, but I don’t know. All I know is what I’m doing today. I’ve got to go ride the bike. But I would assume I will run in the next couple of days.” Jeter told Yankees.com"

Jeter was seen playing catch today on the field according to Yankees.com, saying that his strained right calf feels great.

The captain was placed on the disabled list retroactive to August 3rd. This is Jeter’s third stint on the disabled list this season for the New York Yankees. It’s not really looking good for DJ as this could be a sign of his body telling him enough is enough.

If he decides to walk away, the man has had an excellent career, should have no regrets. But he should be back in the Yankees line up very soon. Hopefully he can avoid a fourth stint on the disabled list, as it may be his last.
