DeMarcus Ware on rushing out of the 4-3: “Really comfortable” and “a lot faster”

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys are moving from a 3-4 scheme to a 4-3 scheme. That is moving DeMarcus Ware from an outside linebacker position to a defensive end position. It also has forced Ware to put his hand out in the dirt and rush out of a 3-point stance. That has caused some to worry that Ware won’t be as effective, but Ware has said otherwise.

“It felt really comfortable,” Ware said, via Carlos Mendez of the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram. “I played it in college. Just reading the keys, figuring out how they’re going to attack you, what kind of plays you’re going to get – it’s a lot easier because you’re in the thick of things, in the trenches.”

“You ask the fastest man in the world: Can you run faster out of a two-point stance or a three-point stance?” Ware said. “He comes out of the block in a three-point stance. So it felt a lot faster.”

Others have said that having Ware dedicated to rushing the quarterback can only benefit the Dallas Cowboys defense. In the 3-4 Ware dropped into coverage frequently.  Ware looked impressive in the preseason match up against the Oakland Raiders. A comfortable and faster Ware is something Cowboys fans can be excited about.
