Big Sean “Control” Ft Kendrick Lamar, Jay Electronica (Audio)
By Mike Dyce
Big Sean couldn’t get this song cleared for his upcoming album, set to be released August 27th. It is understandable why, it is over 7 and a half minutes long and controversial. That doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t great.
The NO I.D. produced song, titled “Control” features Jay Electronica and a Kendrick Lamar who seemingly loses control. It is straight FIRE. Check it out:
MTV rightfully named Kendrick Lamar the “Hottest MC in 2012” after he helped bring lyricists back to the foreground of the rap scene. That doesn’t mean that he isn’t capable of losing control and he has a pretty controversial verse.
Kendrick, who has done plenty of features, calls out some of rap’s biggest names saying that he is stealing their fans.
“I’m usually homeboys with the same n****s i’m rhymin wit/But this is hip hop and them n****s should know what time it is/And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale, Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Big Sean, Jay Electron‘, Tyler, Mac Miller/I got love for you all but I’m tryna murder you n****s/Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you n****s.”
It even got a response from one rapper, Pusha T.
Big Sean echoes this statement kind of in his verse essentially saying he’s tired of people claiming to be hot, then running and asking for verses to remain hot.
Kendrick makes a reference to his Cali roots in a tribute to Tupac but then says he is the king of New York at the same time. Harping back to the East Coast/West Coast rivalry days.
“I’m Machiavelli’s offspring, I’m the king of New York/King of the Coast, one hand, I juggle them both.”
Big Sean took to Twitter to talk about releasing the single.
