Oakland Raiders tackle Jared Veldheer to have surgery, faces three-month recovery
By Jason Marcum
If you paid any attention to the odds-makers lines for the favorite to win this year’s Super Bowl, you probably saw yesterday how many betting services drastically altered or even temporarily stopping taking bets after New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady went down with an injury in practice, but it turned out to be nothing serious.
Going to the opposite end of the spectrum, odds-makers are probably changing their lines for the favorite to have the worst record this year and score the #1 overall draft pick next April based on the situation in Oakland.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Raider’s top offensive lineman, Jared Veldheer, will have surgery on his partially torn triceps on Friday. The typical timetable for recovery from a surgery of this kind is three months.
Having surgery would likely land Veldheer on injured reserve with a designation of possible return later in the 2013 season. Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Wednesday that the club was leaning toward placing Veldheer on short-term I.R. list:
"Well you have one guy that you can IR with the possibly to return, so that’s a potential for him. We don’t have to make that decision now. That will come at a later time."
