Ryne Sandberg to be next Philadelphia Phillies manager
By Mike Dyce
The Philadelphia Phillies quickly called a press conference, reportedly to part ways with manager Charlie Manuel, who led the Phillies to a World Series Championship in 2008.
ESPN’s SportsCenter tweeted out something that seemed to valdiate Salisbury’s report.
Reportedly the Phillies are even ready to announce a replacement for Manuel at the impromptu conference.
From CBS Sports’ Matt Snyder:
"Sources indicate to CBSSports.com’s Danny Knobler that Manuel is expected to be replaced as manager by Ryne Sandberg at a 2:30 p.m. ET press conference. So the news conference is to announce that Manuel has either resigned or been fired. Regardless, he’s out and Sandberg is in."
Early reports suggest that Ryne Sandberg could be the lead candidate to replace Manuel.
[UPDATE]: Jim Salisbury is also reporting that Ryne Sandberg will take over.
“It is believed Ryne Sandberg will take over. It is unclear whether it will be on an interim basis,” Salisbury writes.
