Andy Reid says Jon Baldwin needs to do a better job catching the football

Coming into a season with a brand new head coach and offensive scheme, as a player you would like to do all the right things to impress your new coach.

Former first round draft pick Jon Baldwin seems to be on Andy Reid’s bubble. According to Adam Teicher on Twitter, Andy Reid commented on Baldwins ability to catch the football, saying:

“I can tell you that when given the opportunity in this league you’d better catch the football.” Adam Teicher posted on Twitter

It’s not very good when your head coaches patience runs thin with you, this could result in you losing your job as either a starter or a member of the team. Through two preseason games so far, Baldwin has zero catches and seems to be falling even further behind Donnie Avery for the No. 2 wide receiver job.

Baldwin doesn’t really have any ties to the new coaching staff, so it wouldn’t be a complete shock to me if he does in fact get cut when they are announced. If he wants to avoid getting called to coaches office and handing in his playbook, he needs to step it up and step it up quick.

If he gets cut I’d be surprised if any other team picks him up. It’s plain and simple-HE CAN’T CATCH THE BALL!!!!!

    • Jared Watson

I have no doubt he will get picked up by some team. But now he is a distraction to the Chiefs and especially to what they are trying to do at WR. The drama will pay out until he is cut.

His name might as well be BUSTer.

Do you know what will happen if the Chiefs cut Baldwin? The Pats will pick him up and he’ll have 100 rec and 1200 yrds… The guy is more talented and faster than Bowe, he’s just been on a crappy team for 2 years. Bowe put half the balls thrown at him on the ground the first two years. Ppl in KC forget how awful Bowe was the first couple years. They were saying he was a bust too. Crazy talk

    • Jared Watson

Bowe had 70 rec and then 86 rec his first two years. 995 and 1022 yards respectively, and yes that was with all the drops. Hardly awful. Baldwin has played on the same cruddy offense as Bowe with the same QB’s. If Baldwin was gonna show up he would have by now. Bowe is more talented, faster, and more productive…by far. I was gonna give Baldwin the benefit of the doubt. Delayed rookie season with an injury and then horrendous QB play and coaching last year. Now with better coaches and QB he has regressed this preseason. Believe me, he will not all of a sudden turn it up!

You are really misinformed, because your facts are all wrong.

The kid caught anything thrown his way in college. I think he’s just got a case of the nerves. Should be all world soon. Really hope so anyway.
