During Sunday night’s game between the Indianapolis Colts and the New York Giants, wide receiver Victor Cruz suffered a heel injury which will now keep him out of the rest of the preseason.

The Giants’ wideout wasn’t sure exactly what happened at first, just that the injury was pretty ‘sore’. Tests later revealed a jammed heel and the Giants, wanting to be overly cautious with their recently re-signed reciever say he will not play any more during the preseason.

Per Art Stapleton:

"Don’t expect to see Victor Cruz on field in game until Dallas Sept. 8, per source. #NYG believe heel contusion will heal w/ rest, treatment"

As Stapleton suggests, there’s little anybody can do for a heel jam/bruise outside of rest and pain relievers so it’s best Cruz rest the injury with hopes of being 100% come Week 1.

The Giants will likely play Rueben Randle more snaps and will shift Hakeem Nicks over to the Z receiver while Cruz is out.

Cruz’s absence from the remainder of the postseason is simply a precautionary measure put in place by the Giants, not because of his inability to play through the pain.
