According to Ben Volin on Twitter, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had the same back procedure than Jason Pierre-Paul. Pierre-Paul returned from that surgery on Monday.

The surgeries were done by the same doctor and Pierre-Paul had his operation two weeks earlier than Gronkowski had his. Some recover quicker than others, but this could be a possible indication that Gronkowski isn’t in danger of missing more than a few games early on during the regular season.

The pro bowl tight end has had a couple of surgeries over the last year, so this season may have people watching with one eye closed whenever he gets targeted by Tom Brady. He could possibly be on track to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during Week 3.

If he remains on the physically unable to perform list, he would be guaranteed to miss the first six games of the regular season. So he should be removed from that list soon.

But right now that decision is up to head coach Bill Belichick.
