The Arizona Cardinals used 4 different starting quarterbacks last season. Under new head coach Bruce Arians they don’t look like they’ll have that problem with Carson Palmer at the helm. In keeping with tradition though Arians will hold onto all five running backs including roster-bubble candidate Ryan Williams.
“I’m so happy for him,” Arians said, via ArizonaSports.com. “He busted his tail six hours a day in the weight room for four months. He was so frustrated in camp, but I was so happy to see him get out and play football and play it well.”
“I don’t think there’s any doubt,” Arians said about the prospect of Williams making the final 53 man roster. “We’re so good at running back.”
Seriously? Keeping all five backs?
“We’re solid. They can all play,” Arians said, according to Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic. “You can’t have enough good backs. There’s enough teams right now looking for backs. And we’ve got a stable of them. I’m not going to cut a running back that’s a good football player to keep an average player just to have eight players at another position.”
It’d be hard to work out a rotation system of five running backs unless you were going to be very one dimensional. There are rumors that he is holding on to them in hopes of making a trade.
