As the 53 man roster deadline approaches, the Detroit Lions have waived three more players.

Running back/kick returner Steven Miller is an undersized but explosive kick returner. He looked as if he had a good chance at securing a roster spot, but the Detroit Lions decided to roll with draft pick Theo Riddick instead of Miller.

Miller could be brought back to the team as he should be a practice squad candidate.

Safety Tyrell Johnson was also released. He’s a former second round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings. He was pretty impressive during pre-season but couldn’t beat out Don Carey and John Wendling for a job behind starters Louis Delmas and Glover Quin.

The last man joining the long list of cut players so far for the Detroit Lions is wide receiver Matt Willis. Willis had a solid pre-season and can also play special teams. The 29 year old receiver couldn’t keep up with Pat Edwards or Ryan Broyles who are behind Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson.

He will more than likely get a second chance with another team.
