The San Francisco 49ers brought in back up quarterback Colt McCoy’s former Cleveland Browns teammate in a move that many thought signaled the end of McCoy’s time with the NFC Champions, but McCoy ended up taking a pay cut to stay with the team while Wallace parted ways.

There were initially reports that Wallace had informed the team that he would be retiring, but he simply says that is not true and it just wasn’t a good fit.

“I have not retired,” Wallace said. “I have just removed myself from the San Francisco situation because it wasn’t a perfect fit for me.”

Wallace also added that he believes the 49ers used his him to get McCoy to accept the pay cut.

“I’ve been around this game long enough where I can see what’s going on,” Wallace said, via the Des Moines Register, “and I realized right away the reason they brought me here was to get Colt to take a pay cut.”

If the 49ers were willing to keep Wallace on the roster, he may have been best to suck up his pride and stick with the time. Because as it currently stands, there is a chance that he won’t be given another shot.
