Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has a philosophy – keep the best players on your team, no matter the position.

It’s apparently something he’s implemented with quarterback Pat White, who made the 53-man roster this afternoon, despite many suggesting he would not.

Per John Keim:

"Per @CHICKatCSN Redskins will keep Pat White. 2 things: 1) have ‘extra’ spots w/Jenkins, Jackson out 4 wks. 2) insurance for RG3, KC hurts"

Per Grant Paulsen:

"#Redskins keeping 4 QBs is shocking. White can pretend to be Vick all week & can help them while RG3/Cousins get clearance. But beyond that?"

As Paulsen mentions, keeping White on the roster means that the Redskins will now have four quarterback’s, but with inactivates, it really shouldn’t be too much of a burden on the roster.

The Redskins likely feared somebody picking up White off waivers, thus, the decision to keep him.

It’s hard to imagine a team like the Oakland Raiders or Buffalo Bills wouldn’t have at least tried to sneak in on White if he was made available.
