NFL teams needed to get their 53-man rosters finalized on Saturday afternoon and that meant hundreds of players around the league would learn that their dreams of making an NFL roster were temporarily put to an end.

For the New York Jets, that meant the releases of plenty of notable players including Greg McElroy, Mohamed Massaquoi and former first-round pick Jason Smith.

Here are the players that received their walking papers and missed out on the final 53-man roster:

QB Greg McElroy, RB Mossis Madu, WR Michael Campbell, WR Mohamed Massaquoi, WR Ben Obomanu, WR Zach Rogers, TE Chris Pantale, OL Erik Cook, OL J.B. Shugarts, OL Jason Smith, DL Junior Aumavae, DL Lanier Coleman, DL Tevita Finau, DL Antonio Garay LB Troy Davis, LB JoJo Dickson, LB Jacquies Smith, DB Royce Adams, DB Mike Edwards, DB Rontez Miles, K Dan Carpenter.

There is a chance that some of the players will catch on later in the year to another team, but until then they will be forced to sit by their phones and wait for a call.
