The Buffalo Bills are in talks with safety Jim Leonhard, who was just cut by the New Orleans Saints before Saturday’s deadline. Leonhard is at the Bills facilities taking a physical before being signed.

Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine and Leonhard worked together when both were with the New York Jets and this is a reunion of sorts. Leonhard is familiar with Pettine’s system and could catch up quickly.

It also means that Jairus Byrd might not be ready for Week 1. Byrd is the Bills franchise player and has been recovering from a plantar fasciitis injury. It is an injury that you can play through but it is very painful. The Bills have been keeping his injury a secret until this weekend.
