Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins is one of the top defensive linemen in the league and the team has decided to reward him for his efforts on the field. On Monday morning, it was announced that the two sides have agreed to a five-year contract extension that will pay Atkins $55 million.
Over the first three years of the deal, Atkins is set to collect $33 million.
Bengals beat writer Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer first had the report:

Last season was Atkins’ big breakout year with 12.5 sacks, 54 tackles and four forced fumbles. He added two passes defensed for good measure.
With one of the most dominant defensive tackles anchoring the center of their line for the next few years, the Bengals have a great piece in the middle of their defense that they will be able to build around.
