According to New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan, Geno Smith is ready to start for them in the opener. Geno Smith injured his ankle earlier in the preseason and that extended the Jets’ quarterback competition. The Jets decided to start Geno Smith in the third preseason game to see what he could do.

That forced Mark Sanchez to play with the second team offense in the second half, which turned out to be disastrous. Sanchez was hit and injured his throwing shoulder and could be out for weeks.

That has thrust rookie Geno Smith into the starting line up despite the poor showing in his preseason start, not to mention he is still recovering from an injury of his own, but he might be past that.

Rex Ryan said that Smith is “moving around more like before ankle injury.” He also added that “Geno’s got a good grasp of our system.”

Remember Jets fans you were booing Sanchez this preseason.
