Chicago Bears wide receiver Earl Bennett has taken a $1 million pay cut this week. His base salary was $2.25 million and he will now earn $1.25 million this 2013 season and saves the Bears $1 million in salary cap space in the process.

To clarify it was simply a pay cut, he didn’t restructure his contract.

In the past two seasons Earl Bennett has caught 53 passes for 756 yards and 3 touchdowns. His production has dropped off steadily in the last 4 seasons.

in his second NFL season he had a break out year catching 54 passes for 717 yards and 2 touchdowns, he has barely matched those season numbers in 2011 and 2012 combined.

With new head coach Marc Trestman around the Bears passing attack could be revamped and Bennett could see his numbers improve as Jay Cutler’s play improves.
