There’s going to be some who read this post wondering who the hell the ‘Chicago superfans’ are.

Well, in short, ‘Superfans’ was a sketch on Saturday Night Live that ran throughout the 1990’s. The height of popularity was probably in the early 90’s, but it became such a tradition SNL continued to create skits, though, at a reduced rate as the decade went on.

From time to time, SNL will bring back the skit but it’s something that’s more of a memory now.

The highly popular sketch, which featured comedians like John Goodman, Robert Smigel, Chris Farley, Mike Myers and more in recurring roles also started many famed Chicago athletes and icons like Mike Ditka and Michael Jordan, who stopped by the set.

Fast forward a few decades and the Chicago superfans are back, this time making an appearance in a new State Farm commercial with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

I’m not as sure it’s as great as it could have been, but there’s no doubt it’s good for a few laughs.
