The Detroit Lions brought in Reggie Bush to bolster their running game. They already have a elite wide receiver, arguably the best in the league, and a more than capable quarterback in Matthew Stafford. The Lions are now very happy they brought in Bush after he helped them get off to a 1-0 start.

Bush touched the ball 25 times in his debut and piled up 191 all-purpose yards, 90 on the ground and 101 yards receiving. The Lions beat the Vikings 34-24.

“We just scratched the surface today,” Bush told Pro Football Talk after the game.

PFT clarifies that he was talking about the team but his comments definitely apply to his individual performance. Johnson is commanding a lot of extra attention after a record setting yard for the wide receiver, that attention helped free up the running back.

“A lot of it goes to the fact that they’re rolling coverages to him,” Bush said.  “When that’s happening someone else has to take advantage.”

The extra attention could have people worried that Bush would be sore.

“I’m not banged up,” Bush said.

New Orleans used him sparingly and that was frustrating for Bush, but he is glad he stayed positive.

“I’m glad I stayed positive,” Bush said.  “Everything happens for a reason.”
