All week long the word on the sports radio shows has been that the Jets are starting rookie quarterback Geno Smith and it should be a long day for the Jets offense.

But hold on a minute, the rookie came back with a big counter punch to his critics and turned in a very good performance in his first game in the NFL.

Looked like the recipe for the rookie should be a conservative one, but the Smith ended up throwing the ball 38 times and completed 24 for 256 yards and 1 touchdown. The Jets put the entire ship in Smiths hands and he responded.

At the most critical part of the game in the fourth quarter with the game seemingly out of reach to be won, Smith throws a big pass down the middle to set up the next big play, Smith was chased out of the pocket and was hit late out of bounds by Lavonte David of the Buccs.

That mental error sets up the winning field goal by Nick Folk and the Jets pull the big upset winning the game by the score of 18 to 17.

What a way to answer the critics by a rookie that took much criticism sense entering the league. It is the first game but it’s a great confidence builder going forward.
