It was not a good Week One debut for New England Patriots tight end Zach Sudfeld.

As one of Tom Brady’s favorite targets in the preseason, the tight end was expected to play a big role in the Patriots offense until fellow tight end Rob Gronkowski returned. Even then, he was expected to remain in the rotation and play a role ‘similar’ to that of Aaron Hernandez.

Some might say he did, because it was like Sudfeld didn’t even play in the Patriots’ victory over the Buffalo Bills.

An early dropped catch forced Sudfeld to the sideline, drawing the ire of the coaching staff. As if that wasn’t enough, Sudfeld reportedly suffered a hamstring injury, both situations only allowing him onto the field for 19 of the Patriots’ 94 offensive plays.

There’s currently no word on when Sudfeld will return or how serious the hamstring injury is.

Per Ben Volin:

"To further brighten your day, I’m told Zach Sudfeld pulled a hamstring yesterday. Didn’t play in 4th quarter. Hooman only healthy TE"
