After the Dallas Cowboys’ 36-31 win over the New York Giants, their first over their division rival in five tries at AT&T Stadium, attention shifted to Tony Romo’s ribs.

Yes, that’s Romo’s ribs, not Roma’s ribs.

The signalcaller took a shot to the ribs just before the half and was seen grimacing in pain as he left the field. Kyle Orton came in and played a single snap before halftime, but Romo returned for the second half. Team reps shortly afterward that he had simply “had the wind knocked of him”, according to CBSSports.com’s Will Brinson.

In any event, the nightmare scenario for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys would be to see Romo go down, especially after signing a six year, $108 million extension back in March. And it’s not the first time his ribs have been banged up. Back in week 2 against the 49ers in 2011, he broke one of them but later returned to lead his team to an overtime win. And in the final game of the season at Philadelphia in 2008, he collapsed during the post game shower as a result of a presumed rib injury.

Needless to say, there’s sure to be much evaluation this week as the team prepares for a week 2 tilt in Kansas City. No offense to Orton, but I’m sure Jones likes his chances with Romo under center than he does with Kyle Orton.
