A Sibling Rivalry: Peyton Manning vs Eli Manning
By David Miniel
Think about this for a second. You and your brother are starting quarterbacks and have the chance to play each other a couple times in your career. How cool would that be? I know me and my little brothers would be trash talking all day, every day before and after the game.
Anyways, this Sunday we will see the sibling rivalry between Peyton and Eli Manning as the Denver Broncos will travel to East Rutherford, New Jersey to take on the New York Giants.
During their Week 1 performance, both Peyton and Eli Manning racked up passing yards against the opposing defense. The only difference is one brother threw for seven touchdowns and zero interceptions the other threw for four touchdowns and three interceptions. Can you guess which one threw for seven touchdowns?
You guessed it, Peyton Manning. No surprise, the older brother won AFC Player of the Week honors by a landslide. Peyton’s performance during Thursday night’s opener still has me in awe. He is everything a quarterback in this league should be or at least needs to be.
Yeah the position has been evolving from strong pocket presence quarterbacks to young bucks who can not only throw the ball but tuck it and run when they need too.
Both quarterbacks lead the league in passing yards. Peyton recorded 462 yards on 27 of 42 attempts while little brother Eli recorded 450 on 27 of 42 attempts. They both recorded a 70+ passing play during their first game.
It’s obvious Archie and the rest of the family will be in a fancy sky box watching his boys go head to head.
Right now Peyton and the Denver Broncos look like the stronger team as they handled the defending Super Bowl Champions while Eli Manning and his New York Giants lost to the Dallas Cowboys despite throwing four touchdowns and recording 450 yards passing.
Mistakes haunted the Giants during Sunday Night’s loss against the Cowboys. David Wilson was responsible for a couple of mistakes himself, but most of it was on Eli with his three interceptions. The Boys in Blue did bring back Southern Illinois Salukis alumni Brandon Jacobs back to carry the work load, but I’m not sure if it’ll be enough to take down big brother Peyton and his high powered offense.
Eric Decker needs to have the game of his life against New York and with a quarterback like Peyton, he should receive plenty of opportunities to do just that.
So who wins this Sunday’s sibling rivalry? Peyton Manning or Eli Manning?
Oh and here’s their “rap” video for NFL Sunday Ticket.
