The Washington Redskins have two quality quarterbacks on the roster with Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins and a third-stringer with Super Bowl experience in Rex Grossman, so when they need to cut a player fourth-string signal-caller Pat White is the odd man out. Today he learned that he would be receiving his walking papers as the team looks to add kicker John Potter to the mix.

Potter will only be a temporary option as the team awaits word on the groin injury of Kai Frobath, so there is still a good chance that White could be brought back to the team once they are done with Potter.

The news first came via ESPN 980 in Washington D.C.

White has never impressed with his arm, but he was a standout with his legs during preseason and he is a valuable weapon in practice for the team as they prepare their defense for the increased presence of the spread-option around the league.

All signs point to White returning to the team, which is a major accomplishment for a man that spent the past two years out of the league.
