While the Indianapolis Colts aren’t exactly weak at wide receiver, they’re not exactly overstocked either. That’s not good news considering they may have lost Darrius Heyward-Bey for the next few weeks.

Heyward-Bey was forced to leave today’s game with what the team is calling a rib injury, though, they would not speculate any further as to how significant the injury is.

The former Oakland Raider wideout was being used in a third receiver role for the Colts, a role that Griff Whalen took over after Heyward-Bey departed.

Judging from the replay, it appears Heyward-Bay was hurt on a screen pass and could be seen on the sidelines grimacing pretty heavily and looking to have trouble catching his breath. It could be a broken rib (or multiple) which would cost the receiver at minimum a few weeks of recovery time, though, that’s simply speculation as the Colts have yet to take an x-ray (or at least release it to the public).

A far better case would be bruised ribs, which would likely deem Heyward-Bay as a day to day candidate.
