Fox Sports pundit and professional fighter Chael Sonnen has been known to make some questionable comments. Now he has done it again. Talking about Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez he made a questionable joke about Rihanna being assaulted by Chris Brown.

“Look Floyd needs to keep doing what he’s doing, which is fighting complete tomato cans that we’ve never heard of,” Sonnen opens up with.

I don’t know that Alvarez was a tomato can, he had a solid record, but who else is there for him to really fight besides maybe Manny Pacquiao at one point in time.

“I’ve never seen anybody in the history of America get so rich and so famous off of having complete wimps throwing punch at their faces. I know what you’re saying. You’re saying, ‘Well, it’s happened before, what about Rihanna?'”

It is a pretty questionable joke and one that could understandably offend women, especially those who have suffered through domestic violence in their lives. Playing Devil’s advocate though I would say that he is calling Chris Brown a wimp and he is really more the butt of the joke, in my opinion. That doesn’t make the joke acceptable however.

Sonnen turned to Gary Payton and said, “too soon? Was it too soon?”
