Andrew McCutchen is doing his best to show that he is MVP worthy. The undisputed leader of the Pirates hit a 2 run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning against the San Diego Padres to take a 2-1 lead. The home run was McCutchen’s 20th of the season and marked his third consecutive season of more than 20 home runs.

The Pirates currently trail the Cardinals by one game in the NL Central and the Cardinals are currently losing 2-0 to the Colorado Rockies, although it is still early in that game. Whether or not the Pirates win the NL Central, they are still in great position to make the playoffs. They occupy the top wildcard spot and have a 6 game lead over the Nationals with less than 2 weeks to play. Pittsburgh has already accomplished one goal this season by acheiving a winning record for the first time since 1992

McCutchen certainly has cemented himself as one of the top young outfielders in the game and a 5 tool players that you can build a franchise around. Pirate fans have good reason to be excited as this young team could be playoff contenders for a while with this type of young talented lineup.
