The Pittsburgh Pirates wrap up their series against the San Diego Padres on Thursday afternoon as they look to end their current three-game losing streak, but they without left fielder Starling Marte.

Marte is not out of Thursday’s line up in an injury, but he is in the hospital. However, there is no reason to panic.

The Pirates outfielder is missing the game to be with his wife who went in to labor on Thursday morning.

Michael Sanserino of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had the news:

Hopefully everything goes smoothly for Marte and his wife as they welcome a new life in to the world.

When Marte returns to the team on Friday, they will need him to be focused and ready because they are set to open an important series against the Cincinnati Reds as they battle for second place in the NL Central.
