Unless you’re a speedy outside rusher (say like a Reggie Bush or Darren Sproles), the more stocky you are, the better inside rusher you become – at least, that’s the perception.

That’s apparently the hope of the Dallas Cowboys who want starting running back DeMarco Murray to put on some pounds, this according to Calvin Watkins:

"Interesting fact I discovered this week: DeMarco Murray weighs 208 lbs. Team wants him at 216."

An extra eight pounds doesn’t seem like a ton, though, when it’s put on in weight and not pizza and french fries, it’s a hefty addition.

Murray, who had a solid Week One against the New York Giants was dreadfully abysmal against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week Two, only posting a 2.8 average per carry.

After averaging an impressive 5.5 yards per carry in 2011, Murray’s average dipped to 4.1 in 2012 and thanks to his woeful performance in Kansas City, it’s down to a paltry 3.5 in 2013.

It’s pretty difficult to put on weight during the season considering all the activity, so it might be something they intend to have Murray do during the offseason.
