The Detroit Lions came away from their Week 3 match up against the Washington Redskins with a win, but their defense was delivered a big blow. The Lions have lost starting defensive end Jason Jones for the season after he suffered a torn patellar tendon. The news came from Alex Marvez of FOX Sports.

Jones is a sneaky pass rusher who can also be a force against the run, so the Lions defense cannot be happy to hear the news.

Without Jones in the line up, the team will need to turn towards veteran defensive ends Willie Young and Israel Idonije. They could also seek more production from 2013 fourth-round pick Devin Taylor.

Detroit will have to find a way to make it work with Jones on the sidelines for the remainder of the year, but it is a significant drop off in talent for a team that was hoping to complete an impressive turnaround from just a season ago.

We will have to see what roster moves the Lions make to fill Jones’ spot once he is placed on season-ending IR.
