Ah yes, the lovely ‘vote of confidence’. Those work so well, don’t they?

It seems like clockwork that a player or coach is given the endorsement only to be replaced/fired/benched in the coming days.

We’ll see if that’s a fate that holds true for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman, who head coach Greg Schiano anointed as his quarterback today.

Per Rick Stroud:

"Schiano says Josh Freeman is the Bucs starter."

Freeman had yet another woeful performance in the Bucs’ loss to the New England Patriots and despite Schiano’s claims that he had no intention to bench Freeman, backup quarterback Mike Glennon was seen warming up on the sidelines Sunday afternoon.

Considering the woes of Freeman, his somewhat strained relationship with Schiano, a sub-par offense that may have lost top wide receiver Vincent Jackson for some time and a struggling line, things aren’t looking good.

It appears the leash is tightening on a weekly basis and it’s just a matter of time until Freeman will be standing with a clipboard.
