DeMarcus Cousins’ four-year, $62 million max contract extension with the Sacramento Kings is now official. Sacramento hasn’t had a winning season since 2006, but the new Kings management is comfortable investing in a player considered one of the NBA’s best young big men, but has incurred various suspensions in his first three seasons for his behavior.

DeMarcus admitted that he has to get better at managing his temper and wants to become more of a leader vs the problem-child he’s often been viewed as.

"“That’s something that I do have to get better at. I’m the type of guy, if I know you don’t like me, I’m not going to be able to just smile in your face like everything’s cool. That’s something I have to get better at. I also have to stop reading. That’s something Shaq also told me: ‘You’ve got to stop reading, you’ve got to stop caring. You can’t care what these guys say.’”"

Cousins also announced he is donating $1 million to the families and community of Sacramento and mayor Kevin Johnson’s organization. It’s a great move to see by him, and offers hope that he has finally matured and is ready to lead the Kings back to the upper-class of the Western Conference.
